Creativity

New Media fosters creativity by providing a space where people can exchange thoughts and ideas.

The main way new media fosters creativity is with the amount of people readily available to express their opinions on someone’s new idea. Without new media, someone would have to come up with an idea, think it through, finish it up, and then publish or share the finish product before receiving reviews and being able to make any changes. Nowadays, people can crowdsource, people can share their projects in increments to receive continuous feedback, and people can find others who are also interested in the same project and work together. “People” have always been a great resource and new media makes it easier for people to connect with each other. In “Twitter Serves Up Ideas from its Followers” by Claire Cain Miller, it says, “This is in large part because the Internet lets people exchange ideas easily and rapidly with large groups, and computing tools let people design new products cheaply.” In addition to the resource of more capable minds working together, new media also allows for the transfer of information. Through new media sites, we can learn from each other what materials or resources are the worthiest and find out what others have already used and if it worked for them. This is essentially the purpose of the crafty site Pinterest, which also fosters creativity.
